What do an ageing variety performer, an absent-minded dog lover, a retired French spy and a luckless council worker have in common?

Or a cup of tea? Monsters? Christmas? The end of the world, and, quite possibly, a very bad day?

Very little, actually.

The Beggar’s Ransom and Other Stories is a collection of short tales where the ordinary can take an unexpected turn, the absurd can sit comfortably beside the sinister, and you should never be too sure where the next few pages will take you.

There are stories to amuse, stories to intrigue, and stories that may leave you looking at the world just a little differently.

Some are whimsical. Some are thought-provoking. A few are decidedly strange, but they all have one thing in common. They are meant to entertain.

Perfect for a journey, a coffee break, or those few minutes when you want to escape into another world.

Pick a story. Settle back, and prepare for the unexpected.
